Indian River County loss an arduous advocate for the arts on August 11, 2023.  Our colleague and friend, Janet Begley (Nee Kidd), who passed away unexpectedly.  Janet was born April 18, 1957 to William and Joan Kidd in Manhattan, New York.  Janet graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a degree in journalism. She married Bob Begley on September 26, 1981. Janet spent a lifetime working in journalism and was passionate about informing the public on news happening in her community. During her career, Janet had the opportunity to interview many interesting and important people such as Tommy Lasorda, Colin Powell, Mike Huckabee, Tim Tebow and had a special relationship with Alma Lee Loy and so many others. Janet relocated from upstate New York to Vero Beach in 2005 and instantly fell in love with her new community. She and her husband founded Golden Sands Community Management and in addition to her role at the Press Journal, she also worked tirelessly with the Cultural Council of Indian River County, Operation Hope, and most recently, helping secure state funding for the Gifford Historical Museum & Cultural Center and with fundraising for the World War II memorial.

To honor Janet and perpetuate her spirit we are dedicating the Circle of Giving In Memoriam Janet Begley.
