Lionel Ogilvie

Merrill Barber Bridge by Lionel Ogilvie

Lionel Ogilvie, a Florida landscape and wildlife painter, is a self-taught local.

At an early age while growing up in Worcester, Massachusetts, he discovered his artistic abilities; but, life’s circumstances kept him from fully developing this gift until his later years. Relocating his family to Florida in search of a better life, Lionel committed the majority of his time to providing a sound home for his family. Lionel rekindled his artistic dreams of being a landscape artist in the early 1990's. Working under the moonlight to provide for his family as a commercial fisherman in the Indian River Lagoon he explored every facet of the river from sunrise through sunset.

Over the years, he has acquired many art awards through local art groups and shows; but, the awards are not what he considers his success. Success for him is the ability to use his gift as an opportunity to share his joy of art. He also enjoys of donating his artwork to raise money for charity. In 2005, Lionel donated a 78"x108" original oil painting called, “Welcoming All to Jesus” to St. Sebastian Catholic located in Sebastian, Florida where he is a member. This painting is prominently and proudly displayed in the church’s sanctuary. More recently, he painted an 8'x8' backdrop of a pipe organ for the dinner theatre production of Phantom of the Opera at his church. Lionel is a devoted Catholic, a family man, and well-known throughout Indian River County.

Lionel has been painting Florida wildlife and scenery for 15 years. His life experiences are reflected in his relaxing and vibrant painting. Coming from a simple background, Lionel, through his love and passion for creating fine art, has established a large fan base.
